On a spring afternoon in Gadsden, Alabama, the life of Brandon Omar Kirkland, a 43-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On May 4, 2016, Kirkland was fatally shot in an incident that unfolded around 2 p.m. The violence of that day sent ripples through his community and left his family reeling from the sudden loss.
The response from law enforcement was swift. By that evening, a suspect was in custody. The U.S.
Marshals Task Force apprehended 25-year-old Brandon Lamar Marshall, also of Gadsden, in connection with the shooting. Marshall was arrested on Noble Street and subsequently faced a murder charge for his alleged involvement in Kirkland's death.
In the wake of this tragedy, those who knew and loved Brandon Kirkland gathered to remember him. A Celebration of Life service was held at the First Baptist Church in Green Pastures, offering a space for friends and family to mourn and honor his memory. He is survived by his wife, LaFonda Kirkland, along with other relatives who were left to navigate a future without him.
