In the early morning hours of June 22, 2025, the life of 32-year-old Dakota Seth Hallmark of Gadsden, Alabama, was tragically cut short. He was discovered by police fatally shot inside his vehicle at the intersection of South 5th Street and Chestnut Street.
Later that same day, authorities swiftly made an arrest in connection with the homicide. Chrisshod Wallace, 22, was taken into custody and charged with murder.
Investigators believe the incident was the result of a robbery, during which Wallace allegedly attempted to steal a necklace from Hallmark.
During a preliminary hearing, it was revealed that while Wallace is accused of participating in the robbery that led to the fatal shooting, he is not believed to be the person who pulled the trigger. Authorities stated that surveillance footage captured two vehicles leaving the scene shortly after the incident, leading them to believe a second suspect was involved. This second individual, suspected of being the gunman, remains at large.
Following his arrest, Chrisshod Wallace was denied bond under Aniah's Law, with the judge citing the seriousness of the offense and the potential danger to the community. He is also facing a first-degree robbery charge in connection to the events that transpired. While Wallace admitted to police that he was in possession of stolen items, he has denied shooting Hallmark. The investigation into Dakota Hallmark's death continues as law enforcement searches for the second suspect and seeks to bring all those responsible to justice.
