Special Agent W. Carter Baum was tragically killed on April 22, 1934, near Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin. Baum, an FBI agent, was part of a team attempting to apprehend members of the notorious Dillinger Gang, who were hiding at the Little Bohemia Lodge. The gang included infamous criminals such as John Dillinger and Lester J. Gillis, better known as 'Baby Face' Nelson.
