In the small community of Wagarville, Alabama, a family dispute on December 19, 2020, escalated into a tragic and fatal confrontation, leaving a father and son dead. The deceased were identified as 32-year-old Kelvin Nicholas Coker, known as 'Nic,' and his 60-year-old father, Kelvin James Coker. The Washington County Sheriff's Office confirmed that both men died from gunshot wounds sustained during an altercation with each other.
The incident began when Nic Coker reportedly shot two of
his father's pit bulls. According to investigators, Nic became upset when the dogs were rough with a child at the residence. Following the shooting of the dogs, his father, Kelvin James Coker, arrived at the property, and a heated argument ensued between the two men.
The verbal confrontation quickly turned violent. While still in his vehicle, the elder Coker reportedly drew a handgun and shot his son. Despite being wounded, Nic Coker, who was armed with a shotgun, returned fire, fatally wounding his father. Both men succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Authorities from the Washington County Sheriff's Office investigated the double fatality. Their findings indicated that the two men had shot each other. The investigation did not lead to any arrests, as the individuals involved were both deceased. Law enforcement officials noted that they had been called to the Coker family property on previous occasions for other incidents.
