In the late autumn of 2017, a life was tragically cut short in Childersburg, Alabama. D'Stephen O'Neal McFarland, a 20-year-old male, was killed on November 21, 2017. A graduate of Childersburg High School where he had been a member of the Tigers basketball team, McFarland had also attended Tulsa Community College.
The incident that led to McFarland's death unfolded in the Sadie Lee Homes project. An argument erupted during a gambling game between McFarland and another individual.
This dispute escalated, resulting in McFarland being fatally shot. The investigation into the shooting continued for over two months as authorities gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.
Following their investigation, the Childersburg Police Department identified a suspect. On January 25, 2018, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 32-year-old Jarvis M. Hall, a resident of Childersburg. Hall was taken into custody the following day. After his arrest, his bond was set, and he was released on bail on January 29, 2018. A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for March of that year.
