In the early evening hours of April 3, 2021, tragedy struck in Montgomery, Alabama, claiming the life of 30-year-old Jamarcus Jordan, a Black male. At approximately 6:22 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the peace near the intersection of Troy Highway and Eastern Boulevard. When Montgomery police and fire medics arrived at the scene, they found Jordan suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Jamarcus Jordan succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Montgomery Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting. The initial stages of the investigation pointed to a violent encounter that had unfolded at the busy intersection, leaving a family to grieve a sudden and senseless loss.
The investigation swiftly led to the identification of potential suspects. Just two days after the shooting, on April 5, 2021, authorities announced the arrest of 18-year-old Rantavious Managan of Montgomery. Managan was charged with murder in connection with Jordan's death. The case continued to develop as investigators delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Further investigation brought forth a second suspect, another 18-year-old named Matthew 'Lil Sam' Clayton. Felony warrants for capital murder were secured against Clayton, and law enforcement sought assistance from the public in locating him. A tip to CrimeStoppers proved fruitful, and on May 3, 2021, Matthew Clayton was apprehended by the Montgomery Police Department. He was subsequently charged with two counts of capital murder related to the shooting death of Jamarcus Jordan.
