On a Sunday, the 9th of May in 2021, Chester Lee Jordan, a 59-year-old man from Decatur, Alabama, gave someone a ride from a local convenience store, an act of kindness that would tragically be his last. Later that day, he was discovered in the parking lot of an apartment complex, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to Decatur Morgan Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the incident revealed that the motive for the shooting was robbery.
The investigation into the death of the man also known to friends and family as 'CJ,' 'OG,' and 'Tin Man Bling Bling,' led to the identification of two suspects. Just days after the fatal shooting, one of the men, Mashaud Tyliek Lewis, was apprehended and charged with capital murder. During a preliminary hearing, a police detective testified that while there was no evidence placing Lewis at the scene of the shooting, Lewis had confessed to his involvement in the plan to rob Jordan.
The second suspect, Antone Lamar Yarbrough, who was 27 at the time, was located and arrested by federal marshals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on June 29, 2021. He was subsequently extradited back to Morgan County, Alabama, where he also faced a charge of capital murder for his role in Jordan's death.
While incarcerated and awaiting trial, Mashaud Tyliek Lewis was involved in a foiled escape attempt from the Morgan County Jail in June 2022. Lewis allegedly assisted another inmate, who was facing multiple capital murder charges in a separate case, in an effort to break out of the facility. For his part in the failed escape, Lewis was charged with first-degree permitting/facilitating escape. As of July 2022, no trial date had been set for either Lewis or Yarbrough in connection with the murder of Chester Lee Jordan.
