In the late summer of 2021, the life of 54-year-old Mark Allen Nicholson, a male U.S. Army veteran, was tragically cut short in a burst of violence at a gas station in Decatur, Alabama. On August 19, 2021, Nicholson was shot and killed at the Wavaho gas station on the Beltline. The incident, captured on surveillance video, would quickly lead investigators to a suspect.
