In the early evening of June 1, 2021, a verbal dispute in the Ensley community of Birmingham, Alabama, escalated into a tragedy that cut short the life of 17-year-old Desmon Antwan McGuire. McGuire, a Black male, was in the 2000 block of Avenue P around 7:00 p.m. when the argument occurred. In the moments that followed, gunfire erupted, and approximately seven rounds were discharged, fatally wounding the teenager.
