On March 21, 2022, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to reports of a possible hostage situation at the University Crossings Apartment Complex in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, officers observed a woman emerge from an apartment brandishing a firearm. In the officers' presence, she fatally shot 24-year-old Calvin Dewayne Jackson III of Bessemer.
