In the early morning hours of December 27, 2018, the life of 39-year-old Aubrey Miquel Zanders, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Charleston, South Carolina. Zanders had awoken to take out the trash at his home on Ashley Hall Road when he unexpectedly encountered individuals attempting to break into a nearby storage area. A confrontation ensued, and during the altercation, Zanders was shot. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
