In the early morning hours of December 27, 2018, the life of 39-year-old Aubrey Miquel Zanders, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Charleston, South Carolina. Zanders had awoken to take out the trash at his home on Ashley Hall Road when he unexpectedly encountered individuals attempting to break into a nearby storage area. A confrontation ensued, and during the altercation, Zanders was shot.
He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Before he passed away, Zanders was able to provide authorities with a limited description of one of the individuals involved, stating it was a Black male with dreadlocks. Despite this initial lead, the investigation into his murder has remained a difficult one for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. For years, detectives have pursued any potential leads in the hope of bringing those responsible to justice, but the case has grown cold.
To this day, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting of Aubrey Zanders, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open and active investigation, with law enforcement continuing to seek new information that could lead to a breakthrough. The community has been urged to come forward with any details that might help solve the crime and bring a measure of peace to Zanders' grieving family and friends.
