On October 8, 2013, a day that should have been filled with celebration, 18-year-old Malcolm C. Jefferson II was tragically shot and killed in Charleston, South Carolina. The incident that cut his life short occurred on his own birthday, a cruel twist of fate that left a lasting scar on his family and community. Jefferson, a Black male who was known to his loved ones as 'L.J.,' had recently graduated from West Ashley High School and was remembered for his honest, funny, and loving nature.
