In the early morning hours of May 6, 2020, De'Andre Rivers was discovered deceased in the driver's seat of a parked car on Gullah Avenue in North Charleston, South Carolina. A native of Goose Creek, he had been fatally shot. The investigation into his death would unravel a complex plot orchestrated from behind prison walls.
Investigators determined that Darrell Kasey Williams, an inmate at a federal prison in Bennettsville, had allegedly arranged the murder.
It is believed that Williams used a contraband cell phone while incarcerated to hire and remunerate Quinton Taylor to carry out the killing of Rivers. The calls to plan the murder reportedly took place in April and May of that year.
Within days of the discovery of Rivers' body, authorities made their first arrest. Quinton Taylor was taken into custody and charged with murder. He was already being held at the Charleston County jail on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest for Rivers' death. The investigation continued, leading to the identification of Darrell Kasey Williams as the alleged orchestrator. On August 25, 2025, Williams was transported from the federal prison and booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center. He was charged as an accessory before the fact of a felony in connection with the murder of De'Andre Rivers.
