In the quiet evening of February 4, 2018, the life of 24-year-old Corey Gabe Jr., a Black male from Charleston, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. Around 8:15 PM, Charleston Police responded to a call on Jaywood Circle in the West Ashley area, where they discovered Gabe unresponsive on the ground, the victim of a fatal shooting. He was quickly transported to the Medical University of South Carolina, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The Charleston County Coroner's office would later confirm his death as a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement began an intensive investigation that swiftly led to a suspect.
