In the early morning hours in North Charleston, a tragic and violent encounter unfolded, leaving a 28-year-old man, Monte'l Porter-Robinson of Hollywood, South Carolina, dead from gunshot wounds. The incident, which took place on Sablewood Street, was not a random act of violence but rather the culmination of a domestic dispute that spiraled into a fatal exchange of gunfire.
Authorities received calls about gunshots in the residential area, and another call from a woman who stated that she had been shot and had, in turn, shot her attacker.
Upon their arrival, North Charleston Police Department officers found both Porter-Robinson and the woman with gunshot wounds. They immediately began to render medical aid to both individuals. Despite their efforts, Porter-Robinson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. The Charleston County Coroner's Office later officially identified the deceased as Monte'l Porter-Robinson.
Further investigation into the incident revealed a history of domestic issues between Porter-Robinson and the woman, who was the mother of his child. According to police reports, Porter-Robinson had shot the woman, and she had returned fire, killing him. A background check showed that Porter-Robinson had previous arrests for domestic violence and assault and battery in both 2019 and 2021. However, in both instances, he was not convicted. Court records indicate that in the 2021 case, the charges were dismissed after the victim recanted her statement to law enforcement. As of the immediate aftermath of the shooting, no charges had been filed in the case.
