Adan Obed Aguilar-Suarez was a 32-year-old man from Mexico. His life ended abruptly on the evening of Thursday, March 2, 2023, when he was shot at an apartment complex in the West Ashley area of Charleston, South Carolina.
At 7:31 p.m. that night, officers from the Charleston Police Department responded to The Jaunt apartments at 1840 Carriage Lane after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they discovered Aguilar-Suarez, a Hispanic male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Charleston County EMS and the Coroner's Office were called to the scene, but his injury proved fatal. Adan Obed Aguilar-Suarez was pronounced deceased at 7:45 p.m.
Charleston Police detectives and crime scene investigators immediately began a homicide investigation. They processed the scene and worked over the following days to identify a suspect in the killing. Their efforts soon pointed toward one individual.
On Monday, March 6, 2023, authorities announced an arrest in the case. Dyvonte Ontario Collins, a 26-year-old Charleston resident, was taken into custody in a coordinated effort by Charleston police, the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and officers from the Goose Creek Police Department. Collins was charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Following his arrest, Dyvonte Collins was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. A bond hearing was scheduled for the afternoon of March 7, 2023. As of that month, police stated that their investigation remained active.
