On a summer evening in Charleston, South Carolina, a family argument tragically escalated, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. The incident unfolded on June 8, 2025, on James Island. Authorities were called to the vicinity of Ferguson Road and Danny Street shortly before 8 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered 39-year-old Lakeith Duncan, a Black male, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office later confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of Duncan's death. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Charleston Police Department officers located a suspect in the vicinity and took him into custody without any resistance. The individual was identified as 30-year-old Raymundo Markal Vasquez, also from Charleston.
Subsequent investigations by detectives revealed a familial relationship between Duncan and Vasquez, adding another layer of tragedy to the event. Vasquez was formally charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remains active.
