David Ramsay, a prominent American physician, historian, and public official, met a tragic end on May 8, 1815, in Charleston, South Carolina. Ramsay, who was 66 years old at the time of his death, was assassinated by William Linnen, a mentally ill tailor. Ramsay had previously examined Linnen and deemed him mentally unstable, which led to Linnen's confinement. However, upon his release, Linnen sought revenge against Ramsay.
