In the early morning hours of June 20, 2021, the life of 38-year-old Demetres Alando 'Duke' Orr, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Hartselle, Alabama. Deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Lane Road following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Orr suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite any efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Demetres Orr quickly led authorities to identify a person of interest. Kellie Monroe Hurley, a 37-year-old woman from Huntsville, became the focus of the case. A warrant for her arrest was issued, and she was taken into custody the day after the fatal shooting. Following her apprehension, Hurley was formally charged with the murder of Orr.
In September of 2022, the case against Kellie Monroe Hurley progressed as a grand jury handed down an indictment for murder in connection with the shooting death of Demetres Alando Duke Orr. Following the indictment, Hurley was released on a $150,000 bond. The case is set to proceed through the Morgan County judicial system.
