On July 24, 2020, 41-year-old Anthony Larry Sheppard was found deceased in his Hartselle, Alabama, home, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities discovered his body during a welfare check after he failed to appear in court for a scheduled custody hearing concerning his child. This incident marked Hartselle's first homicide since 2006.
