In the late hours of a Monday night in Huntsville, Alabama, a verbal dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 22-year-old Kentonio Jakevian Keonta Perkins. On July 12, 2021, Huntsville Police were called to the 100 block of Indiana Street around 11 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Perkins, a Black male, deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the young man, known to friends and family as 'Simba,' quickly moved
forward. Investigators from the HPD Major Crimes Unit determined that the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation. This led to the identification of three suspects who were subsequently arrested and charged with murder in connection with Perkins' death.
The first to be taken into custody was 27-year-old Devontae Sherrod Moore. Shortly after, two other men, 26-year-old Jack Deonte Chapman and 26-year-old Raques Deshon Peebles, were also apprehended. All three men were charged with murder and booked into the Madison County Jail, each with a bond set at $75,000. The investigation into the circumstances that turned a disagreement into a fatal encounter remains ongoing.
