On a Sunday afternoon in Huntsville, Alabama, a dispute over money tragically escalated, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. The life of Harrison Sonny Hayes, a 57-year-old male, was cut short on May 7, 2023, following a heated verbal altercation that turned violent.
Huntsville Police Department officers were called to the 4100 block of Knight Road at approximately 4:40 p.m.. There, they discovered Hayes suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit quickly determined that the shooting stemmed from a disagreement about money.
The investigation swiftly led to a suspect, 48-year-old Devone Edward Modacure. The day after the fatal shooting, on Monday, May 8, Modacure was arrested without incident. The U.S. Marshals Service's Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force assisted in his apprehension. Modacure was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Madison County Jail.
