Jalil Mohammad, a 46-year-old Black man from Huntsville, Alabama, was a father of five who had custody of his children. Described by his family as a true family man who was great with his hands, he was the oldest of five siblings and owned his own home improvement company. His sister said that while he was not a perfect person, he was trying to improve his life.
He was also preparing his oldest son to one day take over his business.
On the night of January 16, 2025, Mohammad returned to his residence on Oakdale Terrace. He had just been released from the Madison County Jail, where he had been booked a day earlier on a DUI charge. Shortly after his return, an argument began between Mohammad and his 25-year-old son, Allen David James Henderson. The dispute escalated, and Henderson shot his father. A home security camera captured Mohammad’s final moments, including his last words: “Please don’t do this in front of my kids.” Four of his children were at home at the time. Huntsville police responded to a call about the shooting around 10 p.m. and found Jalil Mohammad deceased. The Madison County Coroner later ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation quickly led to Allen Henderson. During a later court hearing, a police investigator testified that Henderson initially claimed he was out trying to get money from ATMs at the time of the shooting. Investigators then spoke to three of Henderson’s younger siblings, who told them Henderson had killed their father. When police interviewed Henderson a second time, he told them where he had hidden the gun: under a cushion on the back porch of the home.
Henderson was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Madison County Jail and was initially held without bond. In late January, a judge granted him a $60,000 bond, though he remained in custody. On March 5, 2025, following a preliminary hearing, the murder case against Allen Henderson was bound over to a Madison County grand jury. As of March 2025, the case was awaiting grand jury proceedings.
