In the winter of 2022, a domestic dispute in Huntsville, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 29-year-old Antonio Robinson. On the evening of December 29th, police responded to a call on Charles Drive around 5:20 p.m. where they discovered Robinson had been fatally shot. The preliminary investigation led to the swift arrest of 32-year-old Kashonna Jenae Strong, who was charged with his murder.
At the time of the incident, Strong was known in the community as an assistant men's basketball coach at Oakwood University.
The narrative surrounding the shooting grew more complex as details of a troubled relationship emerged. Investigators and trial testimony pointed to a love triangle involving Robinson, Strong, and Tiana Eldridge, the mother of Robinson's child. It was revealed that Strong and Eldridge were in a romantic relationship while Eldridge was co-parenting with Robinson, a dynamic that created significant tension. The fatal confrontation occurred during a child custody exchange. Accounts from the trial depicted a history of escalating hostility between the parties, with prior incidents of violence.
Kashonna Strong's defense attorney argued that she acted in self-defense, claiming that Robinson had attacked and attempted to strangle her while reaching for a gun. This claim was a central point of contention during her murder trial. In July 2024, a Madison County grand jury indicted Strong for murder, and she was later released on bond. The subsequent trial brought forth conflicting testimonies about the moments leading up to the shooting. One key witness testified that both Robinson and Strong reached for guns during their argument. However, in an initial interview with investigators, Strong stated that she did not see Robinson with a weapon. Following a four-day trial that captivated the community, Kashonna Strong was acquitted of the murder charges.
