In the late summer of 2005, a domestic disturbance call shattered the evening calm in Huntsville, Alabama, and ended the life of a dedicated police officer. Daniel Howard Golden, a 27-year-old male officer with the Huntsville Police Department, responded to a dispute at a restaurant on Jordan Lane on Monday, August 29, 2005. Upon his arrival at the scene, he was immediately met with violence and was shot in the head.
The young officer was rushed to Huntsville Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he died a short time later.
Officer Golden had been with the Huntsville Police Department for three years and was assigned to the West Precinct. He was a former employee of the Fayetteville Police Department and was remembered as a wonderful and caring individual. He is survived by his wife and two children.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a suspect was taken into custody at the scene. The individual was identified as an illegal alien. He was subsequently charged with capital murder for the death of Officer Golden.
The legal process moved forward, and the suspect was ultimately convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of the officer. However, the sentence would not be carried out. On April 26, 2015, nearly a decade after Officer Golden's death, his killer committed suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell.
