On March 23, 2024, 18-year-old Joseph Collins of Madison, Alabama, was fatally shot on Lakewood Drive in Huntsville. Responding officers discovered Collins deceased from gunshot wounds around 10:45 a.m.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of 19-year-old Malcolm Jacob Derr, also from Madison. Derr was apprehended in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police.
