Romeo Leland Bryant was a 23-year-old Black man from Pinson, Alabama. Born on August 11, 1998, to Ephraim Bryant and Vivian Wallace, he was a young man with family and friends who mourned his sudden loss in the fall of 2021.
On the night of Sunday, October 24, 2021, his life was cut short by gun violence. Just after 10 p.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a call about a person shot at the Valley Station Apartment Homes, located in the 800 block of Cable Car Court.
When they arrived, they found Mr. Bryant lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities believed the shooting stemmed from an argument that had escalated. A man at the scene, who had called the police himself and said he would remain there, was taken into custody. The man, identified as 33-year-old Joshua Casey Wilson of Odenville, was reported to be cooperative with detectives during the investigation.
Following the incident, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office issued a warrant charging Wilson with manslaughter. However, as the case was set to proceed to trial, the manslaughter charge against him was dismissed. With the dismissal of the charge, no one is currently being held responsible for Romeo Bryant's death. His case remains unsolved.
