In the early morning hours of December 12, 2021, tragedy struck in a west Birmingham, Alabama, apartment, leaving a young man's life cut short. Inside the residence at 956 Pike Road, officers discovered 19-year-old Jeremy Fidel Jackson, a male victim who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced him deceased shortly after midnight.
Responding to a report of shots fired, law enforcement officials began an immediate
investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Their inquiries quickly led them to a person of interest who was present at the scene. This individual was taken into custody for questioning as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to Jackson's untimely death.
Within a couple of days, the Birmingham Police Department announced a significant development in the case. Following their investigation, they arrested 20-year-old Laquandre Rashaud Kelly. The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office reviewed the evidence presented by detectives and subsequently issued a warrant charging Kelly with murder. His bond was set at $100,000, and he was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
