In the fall of 2021, the life of Justin Rasha Lee, a 34-year-old man, was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of October 29th, an altercation in the 2700 block of 17th Avenue North escalated to a fatal shooting. Lee was the victim of this gun violence, marking a grim milestone for the city.
The investigation into the death of Lee led Birmingham police to two suspects. More than two months after the incident, in early January 2022, authorities announced the arrests of two men in connection with the homicide. The suspects were identified as 52-year-old Dennis Manning and 42-year-old Mario Manning.
Both Dennis and Mario Manning were taken into custody and subsequently charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Justin Rasha Lee. Following their arrests, they were held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond, awaiting legal proceedings for their alleged involvement in the altercation that ended a life.
