On August 13, 2019, 30-year-old Tommy Laneer Woods was found fatally shot on the 1700 block of 32nd Place North in Birmingham's Norwood neighborhood. This location was notably the same block where, in December 2017, Woods had been involved in a fatal shooting incident resulting in the death of Tepe Edwards. Woods was arrested and charged with murder in that case but was acquitted at trial in October 2018.
