On a Wednesday morning, January 15, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Kyre Robinson, a Black male, was tragically cut short in his Birmingham, Alabama apartment. His girlfriend made the devastating discovery upon returning from a trip to the grocery store. She found the front door to their apartment in the 4200 block of Fifth Avenue South in the Avondale neighborhood unlocked. Stepping inside, she was met with a horrific scene: Robinson was lying on the floor, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. South Precinct officers and Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they found Robinson deceased inside his apartment. A neighbor later recounted the grim discovery, stating, 'He was lying in a pool of blood.'
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Birmingham Police Department launched a homicide investigation. At the time, authorities had not identified any suspects, and no arrests had been made as they were in the initial phases of their inquiry.
