On May 16, 2022, 40-year-old Andrew Patrick Cunningham was found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds at his residence on Steedley Road near Millport, Alabama. The Lamar County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene, initiating a homicide investigation with assistance from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and the 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
