On February 7, 2021, 23-year-old Luis Valla-Caranza was fatally shot in Brighton, Alabama. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM in the 4300 block of Bessemer Super Highway. Upon arrival, Jefferson County deputies found Valla-Caranza deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. The Brighton Police Department requested assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, which subsequently took over the homicide investigation.
