On June 2, 2022, 23-year-old Derante Person was fatally shot at the Frederick Douglass Apartments in Phenix City, Alabama. Responding to reports of a shooting around 4:00 p.m., police arrived at the 1500 block of 11th Avenue to find Person suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.
