On June 13, 2019, 26-year-old Army Sergeant Brandyn Lloyd Paonessa was fatally shot in the front yard of his Phenix City, Alabama, home. Responding to a 911 call, deputies discovered Paonessa with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen; despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
