On July 7, 2022, the life of 29-year-old Brittany Nicole Phillips, a mother of three from Webb, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Described by her family as a loving 'good ole country girl,' Phillips was a graduate of Ashford High School and was deeply devoted to her children. Her life was senselessly ended in an act of violence that authorities have attributed to her ex-boyfriend.
The circumstances of her death were harrowing.
Phillips was reportedly giving someone a ride home from a party when she was pursued by Benjamin Adam Nowell. It is alleged that Nowell, who had a history of stalking her and had been released from a work program just a day prior, intentionally struck her vehicle with his own. He is then accused of blocking her car, approaching her, and fatally shooting her in the head while she was still inside her vehicle.
A large-scale manhunt involving the Houston County Sheriff's deputies and a K-9 unit from a neighboring Florida county ensued. Benjamin Adam Nowell was apprehended later on the same day as the shooting and was subsequently charged with capital murder. Nowell has pleaded not guilty and has been held in the Houston County Jail without bond since his arrest. The trial against him was reported to be underway in the fall of 2025. The case has left Brittany Phillips's family, including her mother, Carla Harrell, devastated and seeking justice for her death, which left her three children orphaned.
