On June 24, 2015, 46-year-old Brenda Sykes Buttram was found deceased in her Trussville, Alabama, home, the victim of an apparent murder-suicide. Authorities discovered her body alongside that of 51-year-old George Randall Gourd, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigations revealed that Gourd, a guest in Buttram's home and a former colleague in the roofing industry, fatally shot Buttram before turning the gun on himself.
