In the late summer of 2022, the life of 17-year-old Terrell Rodriquez Morgan was tragically cut short in Opelika, Alabama. Known affectionately as 'Head' by his family and friends, Terrell was a student at Opelika High School who enjoyed playing video games and basketball, and was considered the comedian in his family.
On the afternoon of September 15, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m., emergency dispatchers in Opelika received calls about a juvenile being shot in the vicinity of Chester Avenue and Easy Street. Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Terrell suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Terrell succumbed to his injuries two days later, on September 17, 2022.
The Opelika Police Department's Detective Division launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. The suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived, but the investigation quickly led authorities to two individuals in Columbus, Georgia. On September 16, 2022, with the assistance of the Columbus Police Department and the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old Eric Stenson Jr. of Auburn, Alabama, and a 16-year-old juvenile were apprehended.
Initially, both Stenson and the juvenile were charged with attempted murder. It was anticipated that these charges would be upgraded following Terrell's death. Both suspects were slated for extradition back to Opelika to be held in the Lee County Jail. The investigation was ongoing, and authorities indicated that additional charges could be pending.
