On a summer evening in Opelika, Alabama, a dispute that began with a verbal altercation tragically escalated, ending the life of 36-year-old Antonio Drisker. The male victim was visiting friends at the Windsor Village Mobile Home Park on July 26, 2018, when he and Teddy North exchanged heated words. After the initial confrontation, Drisker left the area, only to return later that same evening, a decision that would prove fatal.
Upon his return, Drisker was confronted by Teddy North and
his brother, Jerrell North, who demanded cocaine from him. The situation quickly turned violent as the North brothers, along with a third individual, Marquerious Canada, began to physically assault Drisker. As Drisker attempted to escape the attack, Canada fatally shot him six times. The assailants fled the scene, leaving Drisker to die from his injuries.
The investigation into the murder led the Opelika Police Department to Marquerious Canada, who was arrested on August 27, 2018. Following his arrest, the North brothers were also apprehended. The legal proceedings brought a measure of justice for Antonio Drisker's family. On April 9, 2021, Marquerious Canada was found guilty of murder. Later that year, on November 1, 2021, a Lee County jury also convicted Teddy and Jerrell North for their roles in the murder. The North brothers were each sentenced to 38 years in prison. Their attempts to have their convictions overturned were denied by the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals on March 17, 2023.
