On the evening of June 1, 2025, 58-year-old Black man, Oscar Lee Eiland of Opelika was found at his home on the 100 block of Lee Road 685 North with multiple gunshot wounds to the pelvic and groin area. Deputies arriving around 7:18 p.m. performed CPR before Eiland, a male, was transported by ambulance to East Alabama Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead; the coroner's office recorded his time of death at 8:35 p.m. and arranged for a postmortem examination in Montgomery.
