In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Boligee, Alabama, a party took a tragic turn, ending the life of 29-year-old Korizon Washington. On January 29, 2023, shortly after 2:30 a.m., an altercation broke out, leading to gunfire. Both Washington and another man, 33-year-old Jerry Edwards, were struck by bullets and rushed to a local hospital for their injuries.
Washington, a male, ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
Edwards, the other victim in the shooting, survived the incident. The events of that morning prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement, with the Greene County Sheriff's Office requesting the assistance of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation.
The SBI took the lead in the homicide investigation, processing the scene of the party and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. As of late January 2023, the investigation was active and ongoing. Authorities had not publicly identified any suspects in the death of Korizon Washington, and no arrests had been announced in connection with the case. The findings of the state's investigation were to be turned over to the local district attorney, who would then determine if any criminal charges would be filed.
