On a late summer afternoon in Millbrook, Alabama, the life of 28-year-old Raven J. Young, a male resident of the city, was tragically cut short by gun violence. The fatal incident unfolded on Monday, August 23, 2021, at approximately 5:00 PM in the 4500 block of Lakeshore Drive. When Millbrook police officers arrived at the scene following reports of a shooting in progress, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were rendered at the scene, but
Raven J. Young was pronounced deceased. The second victim, a 21-year-old man from Georgia, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Initial investigations by the Millbrook Police Department revealed that an altercation had taken place between several individuals, which quickly escalated to an exchange of gunfire.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officers were informed that a third individual, described as a Black male, was seen fleeing the area and heading into a wooded area near the railroad tracks. With the assistance of the Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 Unit, a search was conducted, and officers were able to locate and identify this person.
Despite the progress in the early stages of the investigation and the collection of what was described as a substantial amount of physical evidence, the case remains an active investigation. Authorities have also indicated that another individual was present at the scene before and during the incident but has not come forward. Investigators have publicly appealed for this key witness to provide a firsthand account of the events that led to the fatal shooting. As of now, no arrests or suspects have been publicly announced in connection with the death of Raven J. Young.
