In the early morning hours of Thursday, March 4, 2021, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Millbrook, Alabama neighborhood, leaving a young man clinging to life. Responding to a report of a person shot in the 4100 block of Abrams Drive, Millbrook police officers discovered 27-year-old Lewis Lucas suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel rendered aid at the scene before rushing him to the Prattville Baptist Emergency Room.
From there, he was transferred to Baptist South for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Lewis Lucas succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased following surgery.
The investigation into the shooting was immediately launched as a homicide, with detectives from the Millbrook Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit processing the scene for evidence. Authorities assured the public that they were pursuing promising leads and that such senseless violence would not be tolerated in their city. The department also increased patrols in the area to prevent any potential retaliatory acts.
The case saw a significant development the very next day. A person of interest, identified as 25-year-old Ki-Juan Wyatt of Prattville, turned himself into authorities overnight. Wyatt was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the robbery and murder of Lewis Lucas. The investigation pointed to a robbery as the motive behind the fatal shooting.
