On a Wednesday evening in Millbrook, Alabama, a dispute between two groups escalated into a fatal encounter that claimed the life of 16-year-old Maurio D. Williams, a male resident of Montgomery. The incident, which occurred on March 22, 2023, unfolded along Highway 14, beginning with an exchange of words or gestures between individuals in two separate vehicles.
The situation quickly turned violent as multiple shots were fired into the vehicle carrying Williams and two other juveniles.
The pursuit continued until the victim's vehicle became disabled in the 4100 block of Highway 14. When Millbrook police arrived at the scene near a local business, they discovered the car riddled with bullets. Inside, they found Maurio Williams unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics and fire-rescue units who responded to the scene rendered aid, but Williams was pronounced deceased. Another juvenile in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries from shattered glass and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Millbrook Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit immediately took over the scene and began an investigation. Detectives and patrol officers canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses. Their efforts led them to locate and impound the suspected vehicle involved in the shooting. The investigation pointed to the shooting stemming from a prior and ongoing conflict between the two groups.
The day after the shooting, on Thursday, March 23, 2023, authorities made an arrest in connection with the homicide. After consulting with the Elmore County District Attorney's Office, Millbrook police detectives arrested 18-year-old Mose Abram of Millbrook. Abram was charged with Murder and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle. He was subsequently transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he was held without bond pending the official serving of the warrants.
