On a tragic evening in Flomaton, Alabama, a family dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving one brother dead and their father critically injured. Benjamin 'Benji' Miller, a 49-year-old White male, was shot and killed on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at his home on Old Foshee Road.
The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. when an argument broke out between Benjamin and his younger brother, Shawn Miller, who was 42 at the time.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, the verbal altercation turned violent, leading to Shawn allegedly shooting his brother. Benjamin Miller succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crime.
In the midst of this violent outburst, the brothers' father, Donald Miller, was also attacked and sustained severe injuries. He was airlifted to a hospital in Pensacola, Florida, in critical condition and later transferred to a facility in Birmingham for further treatment and multiple surgeries.
Following the incident, Shawn Miller was arrested and taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with one count of murder for the death of his brother, Benjamin, and one count of assault for the attack on his father. He was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center, where he was held without bond pending a court hearing. Authorities indicated that further charges could be forthcoming as their investigation continued.
