In the spring of 2016, a life was tragically cut short in Flomaton, Alabama. On the afternoon of April 19th, 18-year-old Kenneth Harris, Jr., a male resident of the town, was fatally shot. The incident took place at a home on Lender Street, situated directly on the Alabama-Florida state line. Law enforcement and emergency services were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call. Upon their arrival, they discovered Harris had sustained a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.
The investigation into the death of Kenneth Harris, Jr. quickly became a multi-agency effort, involving the Flomaton Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Their collaborative work led to the identification of a suspect. A week after the shooting, on April 26, 2016, authorities arrested 20-year-old Devonte DeShawn Rollins of Atmore. In the ensuing legal process, Devonte DeShawn Rollins faced charges for his involvement in Kenneth Harris, Jr.'s death. In March of 2018, Rollins entered a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter. As a result of his plea, he faced a potential sentence of up to 20 years in state prison.
