In the city of Selma, Alabama, a young Black/African American man's life was cut short. Georgio Howell, a 21-year-old male, was killed on the evening of Friday, March 17, 2023. The fatal incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the 2000 block of Second Avenue, where Howell was discovered with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Selma Police Department launched an investigation into
the shooting, which was one of two fatal shootings to occur in the city that same weekend. As of yet, a motive for the shooting has not been determined by law enforcement officials. The case remains under active investigation, with detectives working within the community to gather any information that could lead to an arrest.
Authorities have not released specific details about a suspect, who has been described only as an unknown subject. In an effort to generate leads, a $1,000 cash reward is being offered for any information that results in the arrest of the person responsible for Georgio Howell's death. Law enforcement has encouraged anyone with information to contact the Selma Police Department, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, or to leave an anonymous tip with Central Alabama Crimestoppers.
