On the morning of March 25, 2023, 27-year-old white male Richard Austin Ward Jr. was found deceased in a ditch along the 3200 block of Alexandria Road in Anniston, Alabama. A passerby noticed a red-stained creek and, upon closer inspection, discovered Ward's body. A neighbor reported hearing Ward plead, "Don't do this," followed by two gunshots.
