In the early evening of June 2, 2024, a verbal dispute in Anniston, Alabama, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 50-year-old Dalriko Blake. Officers from the Anniston Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Palmetto Avenue following reports of a possible shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Blake inside the home, suffering from a gunshot wound.
First aid was administered at the scene by the officers before paramedics with the
Anniston Fire Department arrived. Blake was initially transported by ambulance to North East Alabama Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was listed in critical condition. For eighteen days, Blake fought for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on June 20, 2024.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify 27-year-old Raekwon Blake as the suspect. Investigators determined that a verbal argument between Raekwon Blake and Dalriko Blake preceded the shooting. It is alleged that during this argument, Raekwon Blake produced a weapon and shot the victim, who was found to be unarmed. Following the issuance of a murder warrant, a search for Raekwon Blake was initiated.
On June 21, 2024, a collaborative effort between Anniston Police Investigators, the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, and the US Marshals resulted in the apprehension of Raekwon Blake. He was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of intentional murder, without bond. Authorities have stated that the investigation into the death of Dalriko Blake is ongoing.
