In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Montgomery, Alabama, gunfire shattered the peace and tragically ended the life of 15-year-old Victoriano Flores. On July 9, 2023, the young man, who had moved to Montgomery from Dickson, Tennessee, was caught in a hail of bullets on Gardendale Drive. The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m., also left six other individuals wounded, creating a chaotic and tragic scene for first responders.
The shooting prompted an immediate and intensive
investigation by local law enforcement. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Brothers Baltazar Barrera and Luis Barrera were taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Each brother faces a charge of capital murder, specifically for the death of a person outside of a vehicle from a vehicle.
Further investigation into the suspects revealed that Baltazar Barrera was not a stranger to law enforcement. At the time of the shooting that claimed Victoriano Flores's life, he was out on bond for previous charges. These prior alleged offenses included discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle or building and assault, indicating a history of violent behavior. Following the new charges, a motion was filed to revoke his bond.
